Detox not only for your body

It is a new year and here we go again, detoxification, detoxification, detoxification. Endless advices on how to eat more vegetables, drink more water, less alcohol, smoke less or even take on juicing. But eating healthier is only one piece of the puzzle. What about your home, have you ever thought how many toxic substances we eat, touch, breath, put on our face, hair, clothes on daily basis? These include toxic chemicals in plastics such phthalates or bisphenol A (BPA), triclosan in your body care products, or fluoride in our toothpaste just to name a few. Most of the chemical substances are not fully understood or adequately tested. Here are my 10 top tips to a cleaner less toxic home.

  1. Use recycled glass jars or pyrex containers instead of plastic tupperware.
  2. Don’t microwave food or drinks in plastic containers, even if “microwave safe”
  3. Use fewer cleaning products and use them less often.
  4. Experiment with non-toxic cleaning products like vinegar, baking soda or lemon.
  5. Forget toxic air fresheners, get freshly cut flowers, orange peal or naturally scented candles instead.
  6. Buy fragrance-free body care products.
  7. Open all windows at least one a day.
  8. Filter your water.
  9. Don’t use non-stick cookware, replace it with cast-iron, stainless steel, or glass when possible
  10. Avoid canned food, cook with fresh or frozen or choose glass instead.Happy home detoxifying.
