Smoothies are a perfect way to start your day, a healthy snack option and your best buddy for “on the go” lifestyle. All you need is a good blender and off you go…
Here is my take on how to make a simple and nutritious smoothie in seconds:
200 ml liquid – dairy milk, coconut water, oat, rice, almond or coconut milk
1 cup soft fruit such as banana, pear, apricots, mango, berries
Add (choose one or two): 1/2 avocado, 1 tablespoon cocoa powder, 1 tablespoon ground flaxseeds, 1 tablespoon desiccated coconut, 1 tablespoon porridge oats, 1 tablespoon ground almonds/almond meal, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 teaspoon vanilla paste, 1 tablespoon nut or seed butter (almond, hazelnut, walnut, pumpkin)
For a green smoothie add a handful of spinach or kale leaves
You can also add good quality honey, 100% maple syrup or 1-2 dates if you have a “sweet tooth”
My 3 basic recipes (makes 1 large glass):
1. Banana smoothie: 200 ml coconut milk, 1 banana, 1 tsp cocoa powder, 1 tbsp almond butter
2. Mixed berry smoothie: 200 ml almond milk, 1 cup fresh or frozen berries, 1 tbsp ground almonds (almond meal), 1 tsp vanilla paste
3. Green smoothie: 200 ml coconut milk, 1 cup mango cut into pieces, 1/2 avocado, 1 handful of spinach
Simply put all your ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth and creamy. Choose more of less liquid depending on how thick you prefer your smoothie to be. Sweeten to your taste.
