5 tips for a healthy snack alternatives

Although there were signs of improvement compared with 10 years ago, the need to urgently reduce the amount of sugary snacks and drinks in our children’s diets is paramount. Here are my 5 tips for a healthy snack alternatives for your children:

1. humous and vegetable crudites

2. apple or banana with nut butter

3. falafels

4. chicken strips with cucumber

5. oatcakes with salmon or tuna pate (see recipe below)

Salmon/tuna pate:

250g tin salmon or tuna, drained
1 ripe avocado
2 tbsp natural or greek yogurt
1/2 juice and zest of lemon
salt and pepper (optional)
Put all ingredients into a bowl or food processor and mix gently into a rough paste. Use as a spread or a dip.
